Install BeagleBoard Imaging Utility (CLI)

This page explains how to install the command-line version of the BeagleBoard Imaging Utility (bb-imager-cli).

Installation Options

bb-imager-cli is published on crates.io.

Using cargo-binstall (Fastest)

On supported platforms (Linux x86_64, aarch64, and armv7), cargo-binstall installs pre-built binaries directly without compiling from source:

cargo binstall bb-imager-cli

Building from Source via Cargo

You can compile and install bb-imager-cli directly with Cargo:

cargo install bb-imager-cli
Build Dependencies

When building from source on Linux, required system development packages include libudev, liblzma, and libhidapi:

Ubuntu / Debian
sudo apt-get install -y libudev-dev liblzma-dev libhidapi-dev
Fedora
sudo dnf install -y systemd-devel xz-devel hidapi-devel

Prebuilt Binaries

Prebuilt binaries for various architectures and platforms are available on the Releases page.

Features

The CLI supports optional build features:

Default Features:

  • bcf_cc1352p7: Flash the main processor (CC1352P7) on BeagleConnect Freedom.

  • zepto_uart: Flash Zepto (MSPM0) over UART.

  • dfu: Flash devices over USB DFU.

  • static-hidraw: Statically link hidraw.

Optional Features:

  • bcf_msp430: Flash MSP430 in BeagleConnect Freedom (USB to UART bridge).

  • zepto_i2c: Flash Zepto (MSPM0) over I2C (Linux only).

  • pb2_mspm0: Flash PocketBeagle 2 MSPM0 (requires root permissions).

  • shared-hidraw: Dynamically link hidraw instead of statically linking.
